  1. Some cliches on talent shows are sayings like:
    1. “You look like a pop star” which usually means you’re not quite getting the singing ability.
    2. There are also sayings like “puts the fun in the X Factor” which usually means they’re out on the sixth week.
    3. Sometimes, people say “they love the judges” which seems to work on the X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent judges but in public it looks like stalking.
    4. The percentages also are ridiculous as it doesn’t work with usual percentages which only go up to 100% instead they over exaggerate by saying 110%.
    5. Lastly, the judges may say to us the audience “pick up your phones and vote for this person as they’ve been outstanding through the competition” to me they’re asking to be out as people won’t vote for them if the judges tell us to.

  2. Number One: You look like a pop star, you sound like a pop star, you are a pop star!
Number Two: I/We’ve got this far and I/We don’t want to go home.
Number Three: To get to the final would be.. fantastic/brilliant/the best thing that has ever happened to me.
Number Four: You are what this show is all about.
Number Five: It has always been a dream to perform at the Royal Variety.

  7. The biggest cliché that stands out most to me when I watch any talent show is the sob stories. If an act wasn’t the best the show had to offer then the act would just say something like “I’m doing this for my Grandmother because she’s 105 years old and she’s currently raising my younger brother !” Although that is an amazing achievement it still shouldn’t sway the judges votes. Also if the contestants dont get through they always say “It was a wonderful opportunity” When in real life they would be demanding a revote (or is that just me?). When ever I watch the Xfactor and there is a fabulous singer I can practically see the pound signs in Simon Cowell’s eyes because even if he doubted that persons talent at the beginning he will try to make as much money as he possibly can and suddenly hey can’t recall ever doubting the singer. On the subject of Simon Cowell he is always portrayed as the man everyone has to impress because he is the most judgmental and experienced in showbiz when really he is the least experienced and just produces the show. And finally the fact that every contestant gets judged before they have even introduced them selves. I think the best example of this is when Susan Boyle first walked onto the stage, all you have to do is look at the audience and judges to see what there opinions of her were at first. It was almost comical when she started singing and everyone’s eyebrows shot up into their hairline!

You are what this show is all about, finding undiscovered talent

    The Queen would love you

Could you really present your act in front of the Royal Family

You have proved that Britain really does have talent

  9. Clichés are a bit like sayings that are used regularly, in this case by different TV characters like Simon Cowell and Craig Revel Horwood. Here are some from Strictly Come Dancing:
    “Its a 10 from Len!”
“It was a daaancing disaaaaster darling!”
    “Fab u lous!”
    “Your best dance to date!”
    “Keep dancing!”

  10. My list of cliche`s:
Camera shots to the judges faces- for example a roll of the eyes
The expression, “we’re so pleased to have got so far.” (how can this be there real reaction?)
Another one is the common ‘sob story’.
To add to this, a roll of the eyes is sometimes used, ironically, before an act, which doesn’t look good, turns out to be incredible.
Another one I can think of is the contestants reactions when they go out- they always seem so happy. I can’t help but think that reaction is faked; almost like the judges’ rehearsed comments.

  11. I think that the most common clichés of Britain’s Got Talent are when the judges say ‘this is what this show is about, finding talent like you.’ also when the camera looks onto the crowd they zoom into the people who are making judgemental comments.

  12. Hi sir, here’s my 5 clichés.

    – You look like a popstar… you sound like a popstar…you’re a ready made popstar!
    – I could really see you winning this!
    – I’m sorry it’s bad news…you’re going to have to put up with me for judges houses!
    – *Old act walks on stage* | “Well this is going to be interesting” | *Crowd mutters*
    – *A sad sob-story occurs* | *Judges become sympathetic and kind* | *Overall bad act gets sent through*

  14. There are 5 clichés I’ve seen a lot on talent TV (Britons got talent):
“It has always been my dream to perform at the Royal Variety.” , “This has been the best day of my whole life”! , “I’m going to say…….(long dramatic pause, when the answer is plainly obvious what it is going to be)………yes!” , “I didn’t like it……………………………. (long pause, while audience boo) I loved it (audience cheer and contestant act’s shocked” , “People like you are what this show’s all about.” charlotte

  18. 1. Every year there is at least one contestant who uses the opportunity to get on stage to proclaim there undying love for one of the judges. In reality this would be stalking , but on Talent TV it’s considered “adorable”.
    2. There is always a few contestants who are given the compliment that they are fun or entertaining which usually always means that they can’t sing , can’t dance and will barely make it past the second round.
3.”I vote a million billion percent yes!”
A phrase used by most judges who lack good vocabulary and a knowledge of mathematics.
    4. They judges tend to say “That was the best audition I have ever seen” more than enough times than necessary which creates a annoying repetitiveness.
    5. I believe that sob stories are the most used cliche of all time in Talent TV. When people have a heart wrenching backstory people either feel sorry for the performer or annoyed at how typically repetitive it is. Even thogh if a regular person comes on stage and explains that they have an average life and an average job people are bored and usually expect the worse from them.

  19. I don’t like it… I absolutely love it. Simon Cowell says this to build suspense about what he is about to say and if he likes the act or not.
You’ve got four big fat yesses.
I want to take you home you’re so cute. Amanda says that a lot to the kids and younger contestants.
You’ve got the voice of an angel. Said to describe singers that are good and that the judges like.
You’ve not got 4 yesses you’ve got 4004 yesses. Or however many they have in the audience to say that each of the audience has a vote.

  20. Hi Sir, Joe here
    1. Let’s forget about the first half.
    2. I’m going to say…(long dramatic pause, when the answer is plainly obvious what it is going to be)…yes!
    3. I didn’t like it… (Long pause, while audience boo) I loved it (audience cheer and contestant acts shocked)
    4. This means everything to me.
    5. It has always been my dream to perform at the Royal Variety. Nobody in their right mind has ever had that dream.

  21. An AMAZING effort, Year 8s – great job! I’d love to comment on each individual reply but it’d take too long. However, rest assured that I have read EVERYONE’S and I’m very grateful for such a treasure trove of clichés!
