Revision timetable templates

You must begin your exam revision, if you haven’t started already. When planning for revision, make it realistic as well as appropriate. Build in time for dinner, for breaks between study periods and, yes, for social media and gaming, if that’s your thing.

I have attached copies of the different revision timetable templates below. Use the one you think is the most suitable for your needs

Make sure that you know exactly 1) what you are going to do; 2) how you are going to do it; 3) by when; and 4) with what help.

Mr Legowski’s Yr 11 Speaking and Listening (Paired Discussion)

Mr Legowski’s Yr 11 Q2 homework #2 – due Monday 9 November

So we covered The Method for Q2 today – feeling confident? We’re going to do this homework together – ALL of us, including me!

Spending no more than 25 minutes, please complete the following Question 2.

Screen Shot 11-05-15 at 03.40 PM

Remember, you must select four words or phrases from each of the two paragraphs. They must be powerful examples of imagery in the text. And don’t forget the overviews!

Here’s the text: Nov 2014 Insert.

Write your answers in your exercise books or on lined A4 paper only. Bring them in on Monday and we’ll use the GCSE mark scheme to give you a mark out of 10.

Mr Legowski’s Yr 11 Q2 homework – due Thursday 5 November

I’d like you to choose two words or phrases from either of the paragraphs given in today’s exam paper (the gorilla sanctuary text). You will then write a short paragraph for each one, explaining in each case ‘how the writer has created effects by using this language’.

I have written an example of the kind of paragraph you would be expected to write when answering question 2 of the English Language exam. You’d then need to write a further seven – eight in total* – to answer the question fully. I’ve also added a picture of a triangle to show how I approached this one paragraph. IMPORTANT: you won’t have time in the exam to complete a triangle for every paragraph; I have simply used this approach in our lesson as a visual aid to help you to remember how to structure each paragraph.

And my paragraph written as it should appear on your exam paper:

‘Clang’: this noun denotes the sound made when metal strikes metal. It is a loud, discordant sound. In the text, the door to Magne’s cage clangs as it is opened, giving the impression that it must be a heavy metal door that’s being unlocked to make such a noise. The sound of the clanging cage door reminds the reader of a prison cell door being opened unceremoniously, freeing the captive held inside. We are left, then, to imagine what kind of animal Magne is and why it needs to be ‘imprisoned’ behind a thick metal door. It may suggest that the gorilla is dangerous, capable of violence, and therefore such security measures need to be taken for everyone’s safety.

Mr Legowski’s Yr 11 Half-term revision homework #2 – due Monday 2 November

For further practice ahead of the PPE on 19 November, and as we’ll be looking at the methodology for answering questions 2 & 3, please choose (at least) one question 1 from the following exam papers and use ‘the method’ to answer it! Try to limit yourself to 45 minutes for the whole answer, from start to finish.

Mr Legowski’s Yr 11 Half-term revision homework #1 – due Monday 2 November

1. Please complete a revision timetable over the half-term holiday to show what revision you are doing and then bring a copy in for me on our first day back – 2 November. I have attached copies of the different revision timetable templates below. Use the one you think is the most useful for your needs.

When planning for revision, make it realistic as well as appropriate. Build in time for dinner, for breaks between study periods and, yes, for social media and gaming, if that’s your thing.

Make sure that you know exactly 1) what you are going to do; 2) how you are going to do it; 3) by when; and 4) with what help.

2. Finally, I’d like a statement of intent from you – something that says ‘I’m redoubling my efforts’ or ‘I’ve added myself as a ‘follower’ of the blog’ – in short a positive message to accompany the plans you’re making for your English exams. Please add your comments in the box below before we come back on 2 November.
